Consolidating Local Governmental Services: Effective Approaches and Strategies                                   

Everyone in local government knows the trend! Service demands continue to increase and resources continue decrease. Shrinking budgets have intensified alternative ideas and approaches for increasing efficiency and reducing duplication in local government services. This workshop provides local government leaders with the essential tools they will need to address service consolidation issues. Topics include:

• Past and recent laws related to inter-local service consolidation in Michigan     • Factors to involved in determining which services to consolidate  
• The positive and negative experiences of other local governments                  • Key steps involved in successful service consolidation efforts
• Techniques for addressing disagreement and reaching consensus
